Casino Poker Room Covert Video: bad dealer procedures's Description

A covertly recorded video clip from poker room in a licensed casino. This video shows how some casinos really don’t have good procedures in their poker rooms. I periodically visit casinos and study their procedures (of poker rooms as well as pit games); sometimes I make covert recordings. This is a short segment from one such recording.

There are many security flaws in this dealer’s procedures. First, starting form the wash (scramble) the dealer should be picking up the cards with the faces outwards. In this clip the dealer is shuffling RRRSR. What is not seen in this clip (showing only one round) is that the dealer was using a different shuffling cycle on ever round. In a casino all shuffles should be exactly the same on every round; the industry standard being RRSR. Also, not clearly visible on this video, nearly all his riffle shuffles carried large clumps of cards on top of the deck (about 10 cards). And lastly, the dealer fails to release the deck before the cut. There are some other flaws, but those are the most obvious ones.

The casino featured in this video is located in Europe.

In case anyone’s interested, I only spent about 30 minutes playing in this game: bought-in for a small amount, lost a couple of pre-flop bets, won an all-in with QQ (hit a set on the flop and check-raised), won a smaller pot 2 rounds later and then left. In this round I was on the SB (a 1-2 game). I was dealt QQ, so I raised to 15, pre-flop. I had a few callers (with some off camera at the other side). The flop was Q-6-3 rainbow. I was first to act, so I checked (hoping someone would bet). The player in position 3 does bet with a black chip. The two pre-flop callers fold. The action comes to me and I push all-in (two blacks, five reds, and three blue chips). The player on position 3 quickly calls and pushes his chips forwards. Since he had a purple chip the dealer gives him change. The player shows pocket 6s, i.e. a set. Although it was a cash game and players don’t have to show their pocket cards, just yet, I still decided to show my QQ since I had him beat, I was the last aggressor anyway, and I wasn’t expecting him to get lucky on the river. The dealer deals the turn and river, the other player loses and leaves. Dealer rakes the pot (bad procedure, again) and the round is over.
