Demo of Locking Faceplate for Gaffed Blackjack Shoe's Description

This is a short video demo of a locking faceplate for a gaffed blackjack dealing shoe. A shoe with this kind of gaff would be called a prism shoe, or a 2-shoe. The prism enables the dealer to peek at the top card of the shoe and deal seconds, at will. The problem is that this kind of gaff can easily be discovered, should anyone examine the shoe.

This faceplate has a locking mechanism. To unlock the faceplate the operator must use a small magnet (sometimes hidden in a ring, bracelet, or watchband). When the internal mechanism is in unlocked position the shoe functions like a gaffed shoe and the dealer can peek and deal seconds. To lock the gaff the dealer just needs to tilt the shoe. A small weight inside the faceplate will slide and the whole thing will lock up. The idea is: “Hey, can I see this shoe?” “Sure...” (lock) “Here you go.” From that moment on the shoe appears to be un-gaffed, as it is no longer possible to push the cards upwards into the prism.
